Short Program

A.  TOCFL Preparation Courses

Course Name: TOCFL Preparation Course (On-Campus Service)

Course Description: This course is specially designed to help international students and external learners pass the Test of Chinese as a Foreign Language (TOCFL).

Students are accurately placed using the "TOCFL Rapid Screening System" to ensure customized instruction. The course focuses on test-taking skills, question-type analysis,

mock exams, and answering strategies to comprehensively boost the passing rate.

Target Audience

1. Enrolled UCH international students (Free of charge).

2. External international learners planning to take the TOCFL.

Class Size

1–3 students (Private Class) / 4–15 students (Small Group Class)

Course Hours

8 weeks per term; once a week, 2 hours per session (16 hours in total).

Class Schedule

Mon–Fri between 09:00–17:00 (Flexible and adjustable based on student needs).

Tuition & Fees

Enrolled UCH International Students: Free

External Learners:

- Registration Fee: NTD 500 / person

- Private Class (1–3 students): NTD 5,000 / person

- Small Group Class (4–15 students): NTD 3,500 / person

B.  Practical Mandarin Courses

Course Name: Practical Mandarin and Customized Program

Course Description: This course offers flexible, customized teaching based on the learner's proficiency and specific needs, covering daily communication,

basic Mandarin, etc. In the 2026 Academic Year (115 AY), the center will further integrate UCH's industry-academia resources to promote "Corporate International Employee Mandarin Training,"

offering customized courses from absolute beginner to fluent levels; starting in the 2027 Academic Year (116 AY), a "Migrant Worker and New Immigrant Community Program" is planned to deepen local services.

Target Audience

1. Enrolled UCH international students.

2. External learners with an interest in Mandarin and customized needs.

3. International employees of partner enterprises (Industry-Academia project).

Class Size

1–2 students (Separate classes can be formed to meet corporate or institutional needs).

Course Hours

10 weeks per term; once a week, 3 hours per session, 30 hours in total (Industry-academia program hours are subject to contract).

Class Schedule

Mon–Fri between 09:00–17:00 (Flexible and adjustable based on student or corporate needs).

Registration Fee: NTD 500 / person

1–2 students (Private Class): NTD 15,000 / person (Fees for corporate and migrant worker programs are negotiable).

C.  Mandarin Camp

Course Name: Overseas Youth Mandarin Camp

Course Description: This program utilizes short-term intensive Mandarin teaching combined with cultural experiences, deeply aligning with the academic strengths of UCH departments.

It features three core themed camps: "Culinary," "Business," and "STEAM" (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics).

Emphasizing professional practice, learning by doing, and the integration of local culture, it aims to build an early sense of belonging and affinity for the university among overseas youth.

Target Audience

Overseas youth, educational institutions, or strategy alliance partner schools looking to visit and experience Taiwan as a group.

Class Size

Group enrollment (Subject to specific project planning for each term).

Course Hours

Short-term intensive hours planned according to winter/summer schedules or specific project needs.

Class Schedule

Conducted according to the camp brochure announcements and project timelines.

Long Program

A.  Regular Seasonal Program

Course Name: Regular Seasonal Mandarin Program

Course Description: A standard quarterly-based program designed for foreign nationals coming to Taiwan to study Mandarin. The full program is divided into nine levels,

and students must pass a placement test upon enrollment. This program also collaborates with overseas sister schools to assist students with weak Mandarin foundations,

helping them pass the TOCFL A2 certification to smoothly transition into UCH degree programs.

Level Structure

Beginner (Levels 1–2 / A1–A2): Starting from zero, focusing on pronunciation, basic Chinese characters, and daily expressions to cultivate basic communication skills for living in Taiwan.

Intermediate (Levels 3–6 / B1–B2): Expanding to social settings and workplace applications; able to read long sentences and fluently express personal opinions and plans.

Advanced (Levels 7–9 / C1–C2): Deepening into professional fields; able to comprehend and discuss diverse topics such as newspapers, magazines, and literature.

Target Audience

Foreign nationals interested in Mandarin, those planning to pursue higher education (university) in Taiwan, and those planning to work in Taiwan.

Class Size

Premium small classes, 5–15 students per class.

Course Hours

4 terms per year (starting in March, June, September, and December); 15 hours per week, 11 weeks per term, totaling 165 hours (excluding national holidays).

Class Schedule

Mon–Fri 09:00–12:00 or 13:00–16:00.

Registration Fee: NTD 500 / person

Tuition: NTD 25,000 / person (Insurance, books, and material fees are charged separately based on actual costs)

B.  Mandarin for Work Place

Course Name: Business and Workplace Mandarin Program

Course Description: This course is specially designed for foreign nationals planning to work or currently developing their careers in Taiwan, suitable for learners at the B2 level or above.

Instruction focuses on practical workplace language, business communication with colleagues, product marketing presentations, and customer complaint crisis management. The core philosophy integrates "classroom learning with industry practice,"

and the center will actively assist in arranging corporate visits and internship opportunities, utilizing highly interactive teaching with a primary focus on listening and speaking, supplemented by reading and writing.

Target Audience

1. Enrolled UCH international students who intend to work in Taiwan in the future.

2. Foreign business professionals planning to work or currently developing careers in Taiwan.

Class Size

Professional small classes, 3–10 students per class.

Course Hours

4 terms per year (starting in March, June, September, and December); 15 hours per week, 11 weeks per term, totaling 165 hours (excluding national holidays).

C.  Preparatory Program

Course Name: Degree Preparatory Mandarin Program

Course Description: This program is specifically designed for foreign nationals planning to enter higher education institutions (universities/colleges) in Taiwan,

aiming to intensively and rigorously improve foundational Mandarin communication skills while providing comprehensive preparation for the academic language skills required for university coursework.

The program comprehensively utilizes the "TOCFL Rapid Screening System" as a basis for precise class placement prior to the start of the course.

Target Audience

Foreign nationals planning to enroll in higher education institutions in Taiwan who need to cross the academic language threshold within a short period.

Class Size

10–18 students per class.

Course Hours

Two semesters, accumulating a total of 720 hours of high-intensity intensive courses throughout the year.

Class Schedule

20 hours per week, scheduled in independent 2–3 hour teaching blocks depending on the timetable.

Tuition & Fees

NTD 50,000 / person.

Materials

Guidelines for Rewarding International Students for Improving Chinese Language Proficiency at Chien Hsin University of Science and Technology

  1. To encourage international students at the university to actively learn Chinese, improve their Chinese proficiency, and strengthen their social adaptability, the "Guidelines for Rewarding International Students for Improving Chinese Language Proficiency at Chien Hsin University of Science and Technology" (hereinafter referred to as the Guidelines) are established.
  2. The reward targets include international students officially enrolled at the university (including special program students) whose native language is not Chinese.
  3. International students officially enrolled at the university (including special program students) who register for the Test of Chinese as a Foreign Language (TOCFL) held by the Steering Committee for the Test Of Proficiency-Huayu, and pass the respective levels, will be awarded the following rewards:
    • (1) Those who pass the TOCFL A2 level test may apply for a reward of NTD 1,000.
    • (2) Those who pass the TOCFL B1 level test may apply for a reward of NTD 2,000.
    • (3) Those who pass the TOCFL B2 level test may apply for a reward of NTD 4,000.
    • (4) Those who pass the TOCFL C1 level (or above) test may apply for a reward of NTD 5,000.
  4. Applications are limited to certifications obtained in the current year, and the applied level must be higher than the previous or admission TOCFL score. The reward for the same certification level can only be claimed once.
  5. The certification reward is limited to certificates obtained after the international student's admission. Application forms are submitted to the Center for review, and those approved will be issued rewards according to these Guidelines.
    The funds required for these Guidelines are supported by the Higher Education Sprout Project. The relevant quota and amount may be adjusted and budgeted based on the annual funding budget. If the annual budget is exhausted, applications will no longer be accepted.
  6. When applying, the following documents should be attached and submitted directly to the Chinese Language Center of the university:
    • (1) One copy of the application form.
    • (2) One photocopy of the front and back of the student ID (must have the registration stamp for the current semester).
    • (3) One photocopy of the TOCFL transcript and certificate.
    • (4) One photocopy of the cover of the applicant's remittance bank account.
  7. These Guidelines are implemented after being passed by the Administrative Council and approved by the President. The same applies to amendments.

Implementation Project for Subsidizing International Students to Obtain Chinese Language Certification at Chien Hsin University of Science and Technology

  1.
